#4 Western Market

The building which has a combination use of red bricks and granite band in Edwardian style is the Western Market. It is the oldest surviving market building in Hong Kong and was identified as one of the Declared Monuments in 1990 by the Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO). Now, textile shops and retro-themed restaurants are moved in here, converting it into a center of traditional traders, arts and crafts.

When we enter the building, we just feel like the time here has stopped and waited for us. The 80M Bus Model Shop showcases a number of transport models from the colonial era to the modern, using models to tell us the history of Hong Kong. Going upstairs we can walk around the textile streets with experienced tailors exhibiting their fabric ranging from silk and chiffon to denim, wool, and cotton. After that, it is so surprising to have a newly added Grand Stage on the roof floor for dining and social dancing, what a perfect place for holding a nostalgic wedding! It looks like everything is reallocated well in order and fits in here. We want you to look deeper into what this market has by finishing the word puzzle. Do you think the genre of all shops located here is suitable for the building or not? Go and check it out!
